I am very proud to be the Headteacher of The Birley Academy and feel honoured and privileged to be able to work with our pupils, parents, carers, colleagues and community to be a part of the team who are making Birley Academy a brilliant place to learn and work.
I am passionate about working with our staff in school, and with colleagues across L.E.A.D. Academy Trust to ensure that the education that we provide to our pupils is of the highest quality, studying a broad range of subjects complemented by a clear personal development and wider curriculum offer.
I don’t have a complicated view of what makes a brilliant school and I aim to keep things simple. At Birley, I will ensure that we keep focussed on maintaining a calm and orderly environment, having expectations of exceptional attendance, delivering the highest academic standards and encouraging every student to fulfil their potential in whichever areas their talents and interests may lie. Our pupils are brilliant young people and they deserve every opportunity to nurture and showcase their skills.
We have our five core values of Respect, Kindness, Courage, Integrity and Ambition – and as Headteacher I want to see every one of our pupils and staff demonstrate these each day – with recognition for those who regularly go above and beyond for our community.
Most importantly, as a parent myself, I recognise the huge responsibility that schools have to provide for the young people in our care and will do all that I can to make sure that every single pupil at The Birley Academy continues to be valued and cherished as an individual, and feels safe and supported in our school.
I look forward to sharing positive news with you on a regular basis and making The Birley Academy the school of choice in our region of Sheffield. I will share regular updates on our website, social media, and through Headteacher bulletins, and I look forward to meeting our parents, carers and the wider community at parents’ evenings and celebrations, performances and sporting events.

One of our pupils has lost this today at school, or on the way home, from his blazer pocket after taking it off for PE. It has sentimental value to him and his family. If anyone finds it please could you let me know or pop it to reception at school.

Please see the update below regarding BUS TIMES for TRAM REPLACEMENT!
Update regarding the Supertram disruption and BL1 bus service
Following the discovery of a historic well or mineshaft on the tram tracks near Birley on 23 August, tram services are currently unable to run between Gleadless Townend and Halfway whilst investigations continue.
Based on monitoring and customer feedback, we are making some changes to the BL1 tram replacement bus service from Sunday 13 September.
These include some changes to the timetable to better align the bus and tram interchange at Gleadless Townend and adding extra buses, which should help improve the reliability of the service. Furthermore, we will be running two additional services between Gleadless Townend and Birley only in the mornings, aimed specifically at children attending The Birley Academy.
This is in response to passengers needing to travel between Gleadless and Halfway finding the buses are already full of students travelling primarily to The Birley Academy.
These two buses will be operated by First Bus and will clearly say ‘Birley School Only’ on the front. Whilst children can use any bus, we would kindly ask that pupils travelling to The Birley Academy aim to use the buses shown in green below. Anyone travelling beyond Birley, such as to Westfield School, should please use the buses shown in blue below, which will say ‘Halfway’ on the front.
